Personalization: a new political arithmetic?

Scholarship on the history of political arithmetic highlights its significance for classical liberalism, a philosophy in which subjects perceive themselves as autonomous individuals an abstract system called society. This society and component became intelligible governable deluge printed numbers, assisted by development statistics, emergence common space measurement, calculation probabilities. Our proposal is that categories, norms this have changed ubiquitous culture personalization. Today’s arithmetic, we suggest, produces different kind society, what Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg calls ‘default social’. We address new social ‘vague whole’ propose it characterized continuous present, contemporary form simultaneity or way being together Benedict Anderson argued fundamental to any imagined community. Like earlier vague whole abstraction obscures forms stratification discrimination.
